Made from forged Sterling Silver and Fine Brass and set with a cabochon of yellow and orange Bumblebee Jasper.

When I began designing jewellery I began with brooches. I don’t really recall why as I am not a huge brooch wearer myself and nowadays, they are not the most popular of items of jewellery.

That said I still enjoy designing and making them for both men and women to wear and I have created a quite few bespoke brooches over the years. This is so one of the originals, when I was happily using Brass with Silver and and adding gemstones. In this case the gemstone is a Bumblebee Jasper.

I had been doing lots of sketching with the Menhir shape and after making the Blue Opal brooch I decided I wanted to make the shape more creative so added two overlays on top of the overall shape and voila this brooch was born.

I had previously cut and polished the piece of Bumblebee Jasper and the shape seemed appropriate for this brooch, so it was the perfect fit for this creation. I think that one day I will create other versions of this brooch as I really love the shape, but next time from sterling silver and 24ct gold vermeil - though I probably will choose a different gem for it.
